Persian carpets are renowned for their richness of color, variety of spectacular artistic patterns and quality of design. In palaces, famous buildings, mansions, and museums the world over, a Persian carpet is amongst the most treasured possession.
These rugs transcend style and aesthetic, each piece is a great investment for a luxury home
The history of Persian Carpet, a culmination of artistic magnificence, dates back to 2,500 years ago. The Iranians were among the pioneer carpet weavers of the ancient civilizations, having achieved a superlative degree of perfection through centuries of creativity and ingenuity. Fathers have handed down the skill of carpet weaving to their sons, who built upon those skills and in turn handed them down to their offspring as a closely guarded family secret. To trace the history of Persian carpet is to follow a path of cultural growth of one of the greatest civilizations the world has ever seen. The Persian Carpet is one of my favorite elements to bring into any space. Each carpet is versatile and unique. They can define specific areas in a large room, or create a sense of spaciousness in a smaller room when properly sized and decorated. These carpets will be amongst your prized procession for years. These rugs are prized possessions of families, passed down generation to generation.
Perhaps one of the best examples, if not just one of the most famous rugs in existence, is the red Persian carpet in the great saloon of Highclere Castle with its modern furnishings.
Our example, however, shows a well cared for red Persian rug defining a seating area in the massive three-story high saloon designed by the 4th Earl with rich decorations including leather wall hangings in Gothic fashion.
The classic styling of the area is completed with modern and antique furnishings. This 156-year-old room is proof that with timeless design choices, luxury elements will stand the test of time and function.
To source antique and new Persian Carpets we do not have to go to the UK or even New England. Samuel’s Rug Gallery (www.absoluterugs.com) located at 8636 Melrose Avenue in West Hollywood is one of my favorite resources when selecting Persian rugs for my clientele.
I really love their collection of antique carpets and Persian rugs. The sales associates are well learned, discerning, caring and exhibit a well-rounded knowledge of the history and origin of each rug in their large stock.
